Matthew Waller, Ph.D., joins Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield board of directors, Mark Greenway elected chairman
The Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield board of directors recently elected to the board Matthew Waller, Ph.D., and named Mark Greenway to serve as the board’s new chairman.
Dr. Waller is Dean Emeritus of the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas and a professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management, which he founded. An inventor and writer, Dr. Waller has co-authored five books. He earned his doctorate from Pennsylvania State University and holds the prestigious William Dillard II Leadership Chair.
Dr. Waller was honored with the Distinguished Service Award by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals in 2020. He has also served as the co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Business Logistics and has an extensive background in entrepreneurship, including co-founding Bentonville Associates Ventures and Mercari Technologies. Currently, he is a strategic advisor to NewRoad Capital Partners, a private equity firm specializing in retail value chain technology. Additionally, Dr. Waller is on the advisory board of Natural Capital and the board of directors of the Walton Arts Center and Walmart AMP.
He will serve alongside newly elected Board Chairman Mark Greenway.

Greenway has more than 35 years of experience working in human resources and benefits management. He recently retired as senior vice president of Human Resources for J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., where he was instrumental in developing a national award-winning 401(k) program and other benefits initiatives. He also managed the company’s benefits plan design, hiring and employee training.
In addition to Arkansas Blue Cross, Greenway serves on the board of Echo Health Ventures, LLC and holds an advisory role with Terral River Services, Inc. He also served in advisory roles for the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Client Advisory Council, Express Scripts, and the Center for Relationship Enrichment at John Brown University.
As part of his dedication to his community, Greenway supports Potters House, a non-profit focused on providing resources for underprivileged children and their families. He also co-founded JOYN, an organization dedicated to economic development in Southern Asia. Greenway graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in natural science and was recognized in 2016 as a Governance Fellow by the National Association of Corporate Directors.
